This diet is lower in sugar than other brands of nectars, so switching a bird from another brand of nectar sometimes requires adding a small amount of powdered sugar to the diet and slowly eliminating it to convert the birds. Less sugar is helpful to reduce incidence of yeast infections that lories are prone to due to the high sugar diets they are commonly fed. Some people grind up the maintenance pellets into a powder or convert their birds to maintenance crumbles. Lories do very well on the maintenance diet. Feeding pellets, crumbles, or dry powdered Lory Nectar will result in drier, easier to clean up droppings, making lories that much more pleasant to live with. Although some people use the Lory Nectar to handfeed lory chicks, we recommend using Formula 3, which provides a little higher protein needed for growth in the chicks and eliminates the sugar that could lead to yeast infections.

This nutritionally complete, all-natural Lory nectar diet may be served dry, moistened, or as a nectar. Specifically designed to be fed to Lories as a maintenance diet. Feeding Instructions: Roudybush Lory Nectar has been fed to a variety of Lories as a maintenance diet. It can be fed dry as it comes from the bag or as a nectar mixed with about one part dry nectar to about three parts water. The amount of water used can vary depending on the amount of nectar eaten and the amount of water in other food in the Lory's diet. The food should be changed and the feeding vessel cleaned at least twice a day. During warm weather wet food should be changed every four hours. Dry food can remain in the feeder for days providing it does not become contaminated with feces, dirt or refuse and providing it does not become wet. Wet or contaminated food should be discarded and replaced with fresh dry food. Clean fresh water should be available to Lories at all times.
Roudybush Lory Nectar can be fed in conjunction with a variety of other foods. Some of the food that can be added to the diet are fruits, vegetables, treats or Roudybush Maintenance Pellets (item #30186). When enough Roudybush Maintenance Pellets are fed, droppings usually become more solid, eliminating the spraying of droppings that occurs in Lories fed nectar exclusively. Do not supplement with vitamins or minerals.
